The Arts for Health and Wellbeing Programme are delighted to present the ‘Keys’ exhibition by local artist Patrick Coombes in collaboration with residents of the Julian Hodge Hostel.

The Julian Hodge Hostel is managed by the Wallich, Wales’ leading homeless and rough sleeping charity who believe that every person has the right to a home. As well as providing accommodation support in the form of residential projects, their outreach teams assist the most vulnerable people living on the streets with hot food, advice and referrals. They also create opportunities for volunteering, education and employment.

Patrick Coombes is a local artist whose practice explores local landmarks through painting and drawing. Patrick delivered workshops to the residents of the Julian Hodge Hostel, creating collaborative artworks that explore identity and the idea of home. With lived experience of homelessness, the artist made close connections with the workshop participants to make pieces that aim at improving the wellbeing and representation of patients and service users.

Through running the ‘Keys’ project, the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Team’s aim was to use collaborative art to breakdown the stigma around homeless and allow residents to feel more connected and welcome in NHS services. Following the exhibition, the artworks will be installed at the Julian Hodge Hostel to increase the tranquillity of its environment.

The Arts for Health and Wellbeing Programme extend their gratitude to the Darkley Trust for making this project possible with through their generous funding.

The ‘Keys’ exhibition will run until 17th January.

Mae Hostel Julian Hodge yn cael ei reoli gan y Wallich, prif elusen digartrefedd a chysgu allan Cymru sy’n credu bod gan bob person yr hawl i gartref. Yn ogystal â darparu cymorth llety ar ffurf prosiectau preswyl, mae eu timau allgymorth yn cynorthwyo’r bobl fwyaf agored i niwed sy’n byw ar y strydoedd gyda bwyd poeth, cyngor ac atgyfeiriadau. Cyflwynodd Patrick weithdai i drigolion Hostel Julian Hodge, gan greu gweithiau celf cydweithredol sy’n archwilio hunaniaeth a’r syniad o gartref. Gyda phrofiad bywyd o ddigartrefedd, gwnaeth yr artist gysylltiadau agos â chyfranogwyr y gweithdy i wneud darnau sy’n anelu at wella lles a chynrychiolaeth cleifion a defnyddwyr gwasanaeth.

Trwy redeg y prosiect ‘Allweddi’, nod Tîm y Celfyddydau ar gyfer Iechyd a Lles oedd defnyddio celf gydweithredol i chwalu’r stigma sy’n ymwneud â digartrefedd a chaniatáu i breswylwyr deimlo bod croeso iddynt a’u bod yn rhan o wasanaethau’r GIG. Yn dilyn yr arddangosfa, bydd y gwaith celf yn cael ei osod yn Hostel Julian Hodge i greu ymdeimlad o lonyddwch.

Mae Rhaglen y Celfyddydau ar gyfer Iechyd a Lles yn estyn eu diolch i Ymddiriedolaeth Darkley am wneud y prosiect hwn yn bosibl gyda’u cyllid hael.

Bydd arddangosfa ‘Allweddi’ i’w gweld tan 17 Ionawr.
