We are delighted to present the new display in the exhibition cube at Barry Hospital – artwork created by school children from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg and Menter y Fro.
Local textile artist Haf Weighton was commissioned to work with school children in the Vale of Glamorgan to create artistic and unique designs for deck chairs. The 30 chairs created were used at Welsh language festivals – Gwyl Fach y Fro on Barry Island and Tafwyl in Cardiff during the Summer of 2023.

In addition to widening the appeal of these Welsh language festivals, the purpose of the project was also for the children to have an opportunity to work with a professional Welsh speaking artist and learn new skills.
Through this experience the children developed a sense of awareness in their local area and related this to their personal identities. Special thanks to Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg and Menter y Fro for the loan of the artwork.
Thank you to Age Cymru for donating the exhibition cube, and to Capital, Estates and Facilities Team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board for assisting with the installation.

Comisiynwyd yr artist tecstilau lleol Haf Weighton i weithio gyda phlant ysgol ym Mro Morgannwg i greu dyluniadau artistig ac unigryw ar gyfer cadeiriau cynfas.
Cafodd y 30 cadair a grëwyd eu defnyddio mewn gwyliau Cymraeg – Gŵyl Fach y Fro ar Ynys y Barri a Tafwyl yng Nghaerdydd yn ystod haf 2023.

Yn ogystal ag ehangu apêl y gwyliau Cymraeg hyn, pwrpas y prosiect hefyd oedd i’r plant gael cyfle i weithio gydag artist proffesiynol sy’n siarad Cymraeg a dysgu sgiliau newydd. Trwy’r profiad hwn datblygodd y plant ymdeimlad o ymwybyddiaeth yn eu hardal leol gan gysylltu hyn â’u hunaniaethau personol.
Diolch yn arbennig i Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg a Menter y Fro am fenthyg y gwaith celf.
