We are delighted to welcome the ‘Affinity: A Celebration of Connection’ Exhibition to the Hearth Gallery, featuring artwork made by the Creative and Therapeutic Arts (CTA) students at University of South Wales, as part of their 2nd year module. This is a collaborative project with Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) at University Hospital Llandough, the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Programme, Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and CAVUHB.
Earlier this year, CTA students visited the MHSOP wards to deliver art workshops to people living with dementia. Four groups each decorated a large box and filled it with materials and instructions to create pieces of art with the general theme of celebration, as the NHS will be turning 75 this year.

The activities were designed to allow the students to start a creative conversation with the patients and get to know them better. They made bunting, wall hangings, paperchains, and a sculpture through a variety of engaging and accessible techniques.
The workshops were a huge success, with high levels of engagement across all four groups. Participants felt comfortable to share their life stories and discuss their love for music, gardening and nature with the students. The flowing conversations provided ideas and stimuli for the students to create this exhibition. The wide range of artworks on display has a prevalent theme of tactile materials, inspired by the patients’ positive response to the mediums used in the workshops.

As the NHS is turning 75 this year, a number of the students have also decided to pay tribute to the NHS and the healthcare staff, thanking them for their hard work caring for people; keeping people well, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This exhibition also coincides with Dementia Awareness Week 2023 (16th – 22nd May 2023), which aims to educate the public about dementia, and encourage people to take action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the project.

The ‘Affinity: A Celebration of Connection’ exhibition will run until 19th June 2023.

Mae’n bleser gennym groesawu Arddangosfa ‘Affinity: A Celebration of Connection’ i Oriel yr Aelwyd, sy’n cynnwys gwaith celf a wnaed gan fyfyrwyr y Celfyddydau Creadigol a Therapiwtig (CTA) ym Mhrifysgol De Cymru, fel rhan o fodiwl eu hail flwyddyn. Mae hwn yn brosiect ar y cyd Ă¢â€™r Gwasanaethau Iechyd Meddwl ar gyfer Pobl HÅ·n (MHSOP) yn Ysbyty Athrofaol Llandochau, y Rhaglen Celfyddydau ar gyfer Iechyd a Lles, Elusen Iechyd Caerdydd a’r Fro a BIPCAF.
Yn gynharach eleni, ymwelodd myfyrwyr CTA Ă¢ wardiau MHSOP i gyflwyno gweithdai celf i bobl sy’n byw gyda dementia. Gwnaeth pedwar grŵp o fyfyrwyr addurno bocs mawr a’i lenwi Ă¢ deunyddiau a chyfarwyddiadau i greu darnau o gelf gyda thema gyffredinol dathlu, gan y bydd y GIG yn troi’n 75 eleni.

Cynlluniwyd y gweithgareddau i alluogi’r myfyrwyr i ddechrau sgwrs greadigol gyda’r cleifion a dod i’w hadnabod yn well. Gwnaethant faneri, addurniadau i’w hongian ar y wal, cadwyni papur, a cherflunwaith trwy amrywiaeth o dechnegau diddorol a hygyrch.
Roedd y gweithdai yn llwyddiant ysgubol, a chafwyd lefelau uchel o ymgysylltu ar draws y pedwar grŵp. Roedd y cyfranogwyr yn teimlo’n gyfforddus i rannu straeon eu bywydau a thrafod eu cariad at gerddoriaeth, garddio a natur gyda’r myfyrwyr. Gwnaeth y sgyrsiau hyn a oedd yn llifo ddarparu syniadau ac ysgogiadau i’r myfyrwyr greu’r arddangosfa hon. Mae gan yr ystod eang o waith celf sy’n cael ei arddangos thema gyffredin o ddeunyddiau cyffyrddol, wedi’u hysbrydoli gan ymateb cadarnhaol y cleifion i’r cyfryngau a ddefnyddiwyd yn y gweithdai.

Gan fod y GIG yn troi’n 75 eleni, mae nifer o’r myfyrwyr hefyd wedi penderfynu talu teyrnged i’r GIG a’r staff gofal iechyd, gan ddiolch iddynt am eu gwaith caled yn gofalu am bobl; cadw pobl yn iach, yn enwedig yn ystod y pandemig COVID-19.
Mae’r arddangosfa hon hefyd yn cyd-fynd ag Wythnos Ymwybyddiaeth Dementia 2023 (16 – 22 Mai 2023), sy’n anelu at addysgu’r cyhoedd am ddementia, ac annog pobl i gymryd camau i wella bywydau pobl y mae dementia yn effeithio arnynt. Hoffem ddiolch yn fawr iawn i bawb a gymerodd ran yn y prosiect.

Bydd arddangosfa ‘Affinity: A Celebration of Connection’ yn rhedeg tan 19 Mehefin 2023.
