The Hearth Gallery is delighted to present the Still : Here exhibition by artists currently residing at Kings Road Artist Studios. Located in Pontcanna, Cardiff, the studios have been a long-standing staple of the Cardiff arts community. Welcoming artists working in a variety of mediums, the space has encouraged connection-building and collaboration over the years.

It all began in 1996 when two graduates from Cardiff School of Art and Design were looking for studios. After a long search they came across an old industrial building with a rich history, which had started life as the laundry to a local hospital. The artists set about converting the top floor into 14 studios, one of which has since been renovated into a kitchen space where artists can now meet.

Artists’ Collectives, co-operatives and groups have a well-established position in art history. Artists have long been motivated to come together to share common issues, their work, highlight community matters or illuminate untold stories.

Artists’ studios and buildings offer more than simply a space to work. They also function as a hub for mutual support, as spaces for sharing skills and information, and critically as a platform to showcase work. The studio co-operative, often under its own management, aims to connect with the wider community and audiences. They are often a bed rock of creative ecosystems and communities – their importance can permeate a city.

Kings Road Artists represent a diverse, open and inclusive approach to the arts; we support and value all our members’ art practices and are fully engaged with the wider arts community in Cardiff and beyond. We have supported a large number of Cardiff artists over the years including those fresh out of art school, to those discovering their creative potential further into adulthood. We offer mentoring and support, as well as a platform for practices to flourish.

Our current members work across a number of art disciplines including painting, printing, illustration, sound and film composition, photography and textiles. A number of our members work in community arts roles in organisations, projects and galleries; while many of our members have achieved awards, external exhibitions and grants.

Our events include open studios and shows – please get in touch or visit us at Kings Road Yard, Pontcanna.

Still: Here – Arddangosfa gan Artistiaid Kings Road

Mae’n bleser gan Oriel yr Aelwyd gyflwyno arddangosfa Still: Here gan artistiaid o Stiwdios Artistiaid Kings Road. Wedi’u lleoli ym Mhontcanna, Caerdydd, mae’r stiwdios wedi bod yn gonglfaen i gymuned celfyddydau Caerdydd ers cryn amser.

Dechreuodd y cyfan ym 1996 pan oedd dau o raddedigion Ysgol Gelf a Dylunio Caerdydd yn chwilio am stiwdios. Ar ôl chwilio am amser hir daethant ar draws hen adeilad diwydiannol oedd â hanes cyfoethog, a oedd wedi dechrau bywyd fel y golchdy i ysbyty lleol. Aeth yr artistiaid ati i drawsnewid y llawr uchaf yn 14 stiwdio, ac mae un ohonynt wedi cael ei hadnewyddu ers hynny yn ofod cegin lle gall artistiaid gwrdd dros baned.

Mae gan fentrau, cwmnïau cydweithredol a grwpiau artistiaid le amlwg mewn hanes celf, gan roi cyfle i artistiaid ddod at ei gilydd wedi’u cymell yn aml gan faterion cyffredin, i rannu eu gwaith, tynnu sylw at faterion cymunedol neu ddatgelu straeon nas adroddwyd.

Mae stiwdios ac adeiladau artistiaid yn cynnig mwy na dim ond lle i weithio, maent hefyd yn gweithredu fel canolbwynt ar gyfer cyd-gefnogaeth, fel llwyfannau ar gyfer rhannu sgiliau a gwybodaeth, ac yn feirniadol fel llwyfan i arddangos gwaith. Nod stiwdios cydweithredol, sy’n aml o dan eu rheolaeth eu hunain, yw cysylltu â’r gymuned ehangach a chynulleidfaoedd ac yn aml maent yn sylfaen i ecosystemau a chymunedau creadigol – gall eu pwysigrwydd dreiddio drwy ddinas.

Mae Artistiaid Kings Road yn cynrychioli ymagwedd amrywiol, agored a chynhwysol tuag at y celfyddydau; rydym yn cefnogi ac yn gwerthfawrogi arferion celf ein holl aelodau ac rydym yn ymgysylltu’n llawn â’r gymuned gelfyddydol ehangach yng Nghaerdydd a thu hwnt. Rydym wedi cefnogi nifer fawr o artistiaid o Gaerdydd dros y blynyddoedd gan gynnwys y rhai sydd newydd adael ysgol gelf, gan ddarparu mentora a chefnogaeth, a llwyfan i’w hymarfer ffynnu.

Mae ein haelodau presennol yn gweithio ar draws nifer o ddisgyblaethau celf gan gynnwys paentio, argraffu, cyfansoddi sain a ffilm, ffotograffiaeth a thecstilau, ac mae nifer o’n haelodau yn gweithio i gefnogi’r gymuned ehangach i fwynhau manteision ymgysylltu â’r celfyddydau creadigol.

Mae ein digwyddiadau’n cynnwys stiwdios agored ac arddangosfeydd, cysylltwch â ni neu ymwelwch â ni yn Kings Road Yard, Pontcanna
