ARTWORKS: Art Works Where all young people have access to the transformative power of creating art.

The Arts for Health and Wellbeing Programme are proud to share the upcoming collaboration with Beth Morris Workshops to launch ‘ARTWORKS: Art Works’ with funding from NHS Charities Together.

Beth Morris Workshops is a creative community art school providing workshops to inspire and give confidence to children and adults of all abilities. We have a long lasting relationship with Beth Morris, who has run multiple projects supporting patients and the community at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, including patients from the Brain and Spinal Rehabilitation centre at University Hospital Llandough. Most recently over 60 of her younger students developed art work for The Magnificent Meadows Cymru project resulting in a huge joyful art piece bringing a sense of calm to staff, patients and visitors of our Cardiff hospital.

Over the next two years, we aim for ARTWORKS to offer regular accessible creative workshops, providing opportunities for students to develop artistically and fulfil their potential. The ARTWORKS team believe that access to art is a human right and that self-expression and creative expression is power. We are committed to honouring the voices of young people and their communities who do not have access to art.

The need for ARTWORKS has developed from the long-term negative effect the Covid-19 Pandemic has had on young people, particularly those from underrepresented communities. We will create a space where respect, diversity, and equity are at the forefront of our programme. While we work with everyone, we hold primary space for those who have faced barriers to arts, education, and employment. We hope to connect with local groups and organisations who are already supporting such communities to help shape the programmes development.

Beth has designed the ARTWORKS programme to provide regular supportive sessions celebrating creativity, but also providing a stable routine and practical approach which impacts positively on mental wellbeing. Students will not need any previous artistic experience, but must be aged 16-25 years old, committed to being part of a creative community, and have a keenness to develop their skills and self confidence.

During the workshops, students will have opportunity to create in various arts media, including, zines, poetry, photography, collage, textiles, fashion design and illustration, stitch, painting, print-making, jewellery-making, sneaker design and multi-cultural craft, as part of an agile programme that will respond and adapt to all students needs. Professional artists and creatives will be regularly commissioned to share their stories and skills so the ARTWORKS students can develop their own.

Art works to help us express ourselves, give us a voice and improve our mental health. I am privileged to support this creative programme and I am looking forward to getting to know the applicants and working alongside the incredible guest artists we have lined up. We are all works of art, and these workshops will hopefully help young people realise that.

ARTWORKS will begin in early 2022 and we look forward to keeping you updated with its developments.

ARTWORKS – Sefydlu

ARTWORKS: Art Works – Lle mae gan bob person ifanc fynediad at bŵer trawsnewidiol creu celf.

Mae Rhaglen y Celfyddydau ar gyfer Iechyd a Lles yn falch o rannu’r cydweithrediad sydd ar y gweill gyda Gweithdai Beth Morris i lansio ‘ARTWORKS: Art Works’ gyda chyllid gan NHS Charities Together.

Ysgol gelf gymunedol greadigol yw Gweithdai Beth Morris sy’n darparu gweithdai i ysbrydoli a rhoi hyder i blant ac oedolion o bob gallu. Mae gennym berthynas hirhoedlog gyda Beth Morris, sydd wedi cynnal nifer o brosiectau i gefnogi cleifion a’r gymuned ym Mwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Caerdydd a’r Fro, gan gynnwys cleifion o’r ganolfan Adsefydlu Asgwrn Cefn a Niwroadsefydlu yn Ysbyty Athrofaol Llandochau. Yn fwy diweddar, bu dros 60 o’i myfyrwyr iau yn datblygu gwaith celf ar gyfer prosiect Gweirgloddiau Gwych Cymru, gan arwain at greu darn o waith celf enfawr, llawen sy’n dod ag ymdeimlad o dawelwch i staff, cleifion ac ymwelwyr i’n hysbyty yng Nghaerdydd.

Dros y ddwy flynedd nesaf, ein nod yw i ARTWORKS gynnig gweithdai creadigol hygyrch rheolaidd, gan ddarparu cyfleoedd i fyfyrwyr ddatblygu’n artistig a chyflawni eu potensial. Mae tîm ARTWORKS yn credu bod mynediad at gelf yn hawl ddynol a bod hunanfynegiant a mynegiant creadigol yn bŵer. Rydym wedi ymrwymo i anrhydeddu lleisiau pobl ifanc a’u cymunedau nad oes ganddynt fynediad at gelf.

Mae’r angen am ARTWORKS wedi datblygu o’r effaith negyddol hirdymor y mae Pandemig COVID-19 wedi’i chael ar bobl ifanc, yn enwedig y rhai o gymunedau heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol. Byddwn yn creu gofod lle mae parch, amrywiaeth a thegwch yn flaenllaw yn ein rhaglen. Er ein bod yn gweithio gyda phawb, mae gennym le sylfaenol i’r rhai sydd wedi wynebu rhwystrau i’r celfyddydau, addysg a chyflogaeth. Rydym yn gobeithio cysylltu â grwpiau a sefydliadau lleol sydd eisoes yn cefnogi cymunedau o’r fath i helpu i lywio datblygiad y rhaglenni.

Mae Beth wedi dylunio rhaglen ARTWORKS i ddarparu sesiynau cefnogol rheolaidd sy’n dathlu creadigrwydd, ond hefyd yn darparu trefn sefydlog ac ymagwedd ymarferol sy’n effeithio’n gadarnhaol ar les meddyliol. Ni fydd angen unrhyw brofiad artistig blaenorol ar fyfyrwyr, ond mae’n rhaid iddynt fod rhwng 16-25 oed, wedi ymrwymo i fod yn rhan o gymuned greadigol, ac yn awyddus i ddatblygu eu sgiliau a’u hunanhyder.

Yn ystod y gweithdai, bydd myfyrwyr yn cael y cyfle i greu gan ddefnyddio cyfryngau celfyddydol amrywiol, gan gynnwys cylchgronau, barddoniaeth, ffotograffiaeth, collage, tecstilau, dylunio ffasiwn, pwytho, peintio, creu printiau, gwneud gemwaith, dylunio esgid chwaraeon (sneaker) a chrefftau amlddiwylliannol fel rhan o raglen hyblyg a fydd yn ymateb ac yn addasu i anghenion yr holl fyfyrwyr. Bydd artistiaid proffesiynol a phobl greadigol yn cael eu comisiynu’n rheolaidd i rannu eu straeon a’u sgiliau fel y gall myfyrwyr ARTWORKS ddatblygu eu rhai eu hunain.

Mae celf yn ein helpu i fynegi ein hunain, yn rhoi llais i ni ac yn gwella ein hiechyd meddwl. Mae’n fraint cael cefnogi’r rhaglen greadigol hon ac rwy’n edrych ymlaen at ddod i adnabod yr ymgeiswyr a gweithio ochr yn ochr â’r artistiaid gwadd anhygoel rydym wedi’u trefnu. Rydym i gyd yn weithiau celf, a gobeithio y bydd y gweithdai hyn yn helpu pobl ifanc i sylweddoli hynny.

-Beth Morris

Bydd ARTWORKS yn dechrau yn gynnar yn 2023 ac edrychwn ymlaen at roi’r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf i chi am ei ddatblygiadau.
