A partnership project between Haf Weighton, Dewi Tannat Lloyd, Oasis and the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Team Cardiff and Vale UHB.
Funded by the Arts Council of Wales through the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Lottery Fund.
The Arts for Health and Wellbeing Team were delighted to commission Haf Weighton and Dewi Tannatt Lloyd to conceive and work on a project, GWELD (See) which used art and photography to widen the experience of Cardiff to a group of clients that attend Oasis using imagination and real experience of the service users at Oasis.
Refugee’s and Asylum Seekers have little choice on the city or location where they end up in the UK. They have limited funds to pay for public transport. So when they arrive in Cardiff, they become familiar only with the Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, which provides all their health checks and treatment, their allocated home or hostel, and with Oasis.
Oasis is a not-for-profit organisation in Splott, Cardiff, that provides support for roughly 100-150 visitors each day from around the globe, this includes people from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, El Salvador, and Ivory Coast among many other countries. Some have just arrived in Cardiff whereas others have been in Cardiff for a few years and visit Oasis to socialise with the many friends they have made there.
This innovative project looked at how we could engage more deeply with the Oasis community and the people who use our services. Haf Weighton worked with clients at Oasis to create beautiful, meaningful quilts which express the personal stories of the participants, and Dewi Tannatt Lloyd has created an online digital interactive quilt where you can see much of the work that was created, and also provides an innovative legacy for the project.

Roedd Tîm y Celfyddydau ar gyfer Iechyd a Lles yn falch iawn o gomisiynu Haf Weighton a Dewi Tannatt Lloyd i greu a gweithio ar brosiect, GWELD a ddefnyddiodd gelf a ffotograffiaeth i ehangu profiad Caerdydd i grŵp o gleientiaid sy’n mynychu Oasis gan ddefnyddio dychymyg a phrofiad gwirioneddol defnyddwyr gwasanaeth Oasis.
Ychydig o ddewis sydd gan Ffoaduriaid a Cheiswyr Lloches o ran y ddinas neu’r lleoliad lle byddant yn ymgartrefu yn y DU. Prin iawn yw’r arian sydd ganddynt i dalu am drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus. Felly pan fyddant yn cyrraedd Caerdydd, maent yn dod yn gyfarwydd â Gwasanaeth Cynhwysiant Iechyd Caerdydd a’r Fro yn Ysbyty Brenhinol Caerdydd yn unig, sy’n darparu eu holl wiriadau iechyd a thriniaeth, eu cartref neu hostel penodedig, a chydag Oasis.
Mae Oasis yn sefydliad dielw yn y Sblot, Caerdydd, sy’n darparu cymorth i tua 100-150 o ymwelwyr bob dydd o bob rhan o’r byd, gan gynnwys pobl o Iran, Irac, Affganistan, Swdan, El Salvador, y Traeth Ifori ymhlith llawer o wledydd eraill. Mae rhai newydd gyrraedd yng Nghaerdydd tra bod eraill wedi bod yma ers ychydig o flynyddoedd ac maent yn ymweld ag Oasis i gymdeithasu â’r ffrindiau niferus maent wedi’u gwneud yma.
Edrychodd y prosiect arloesol hwn ar sut y gallem ymgysylltu’n ddyfnach â chymuned Oasis a’r bobl sy’n defnyddio ein gwasanaethau. Gweithiodd Haf Weighton gyda chleientiaid yn Oasis i greu cwiltiau hardd, ystyrlon sy’n mynegi hanesion personol y cyfranogwyr, ac mae Dewi Tannatt Lloyd wedi creu cwilt rhyngweithiol digidol ar-lein lle gallwch weld llawer o’r gwaith a grëwyd, a sydd hefyd yn darparu gwaddol arloesol ar gyfer y prosiect.
