The Hearth Gallery is delighted to present Postcards from Wales, the new Corridor exhibition by Patrick Coombes. They display Welsh scenery and landmarks, crafted by the artist with his love for the beautiful country.

This project has been inspired my love of Wales, and the desire to celebrate the beauty, charm and individuality of these places. Why do people have London, New York and Monaco on their walls, but not Cardiff, Chepstow or Llangollen? This was a conundrum that I wanted to work out.

I have always been influenced by the art deco and art nouveau movement from the early twentieth century. Artists such as Robert Erte, Tamara de Lempicka and Leonetto Capiello, had a big impact on my style and development as an acrylic painter.

I hope that this project encourages people to be proud of wherever they are from, but also to embrace new places with adventure and eagerness. I also hope that it helps to evoke memories and nostalgia from the past for certain individuals. I have been working on this project for around five years, and I am continually adding new designs to this ever increasing collection. I want to make people smile with this work. I am also passionate about ensuring that art is affordable for everyone. This is why I have turned these designs into postcards that are available from my etsy store, and various markets and craft events across Cardiff.

Cardiau Post o Gymru – Arddangosfa gan Patrick Coombes

Mae Oriel yr Aelwyd yn falch iawn o gyflwyno Cardiau Post o Gymru, yr Arddangosfa Goridor newydd gan Patrick Coombes. Maent yn lluniau o olygfeydd a thirnodau yng Nghymru, yn arddangos cariad yr artist at y wlad brydferth hon.

Ysbrydolwyd y prosiect hwn gan fy nghariad at Gymru, a’r awydd i ddathlu harddwch, swyn ac unigoliaeth y lleoedd hyn. Pam fod gan bobl luniau o Lundain, Efrog Newydd a Monaco ar eu waliau, ond nid Caerdydd, Cas-gwent na Llangollen? Roedd hwn yn benbleth roeddwn i eisiau ei ddatrys.

Rydw i bob amser wedi cael fy nylanwadu gan y mudiad art deco ac art nouveau o ddechrau’r ugeinfed ganrif. Cafodd artistiaid fel Robert Erte, Tamara de Lempicka a Leonetto Capiello effaith fawr ar fy arddull a’m datblygiad fel peintiwr acrylig.

Rwy’n gobeithio bod y prosiect hwn yn annog pobl i fod yn falch o ble maent yn dod, ond hefyd i groesawu a chofleidio lleoedd newydd. Rwy’n gobeithio hefyd ei fod yn helpu rhai i hel atgofion am eu gorffennol. Rwyf wedi bod yn gweithio ar y prosiect hwn ers tua phum mlynedd, ac rydw i’n dal i ychwanegu dyluniadau newydd at y casgliad sy’n parhau i dyfu. Rwyf am wneud i bobl wenu gyda’r gwaith hwn. Rwyf hefyd yn angerddol am sicrhau bod celf yn fforddiadwy i bawb. Dyna pam yr wyf wedi troi’r dyluniadau hyn yn gardiau post sydd ar gael o’m safle Etsy, a marchnadoedd a digwyddiadau crefft amrywiol ledled Caerdydd.
