The ‘Creative Exhibition’ was recently installed at Barry Hospital, showcasing Links Charity Members’ diverse range of talents. A variety of photographs, collage, paintings, drawings and models can be found on display.

Links is a Mental Health Charity based in Llanelli, and for 25 years they have been supporting adults with mental health needs. They are advocates for learning creative and practical skills to aid recovery and wellbeing, which is supported by the vibrancy of the artwork displayed in the exhibition.

At Links we encourage people to get imaginative through art, crafts, photography, cooking, pyrography and other creative avenues. An array of different people attend Links who have or are experiencing mental ill health and we celebrate diverse talents, interests and backgrounds.

The work on display and for sale here at Barry Hospital have been created by the talented members at Links. The photos are from attendees of the digital photography group who regularly take photos around Llanelli and Carmarthenshire; return to Links to learn and use Photoshop alongside other editing tools.

The wonderful artwork is created by imaginative individuals who attend art sessions and experiment with a range of mediums, colours and textures. Finally, the small models are created by veterans and ex service personnel who attend Links every Tuesday. They construct small figures; adding intricate details whilst socialising with people with shared experiences and understanding.”

Jessica Sharkey, Links Creative Enterprise Coordinator.

Whether you are taking the time to view the art on display, or create art and participate in art projects yourself, the physical and mental benefits of being surrounded by art can be enormous.
