Exhibitions Coordinator Molly Lewis from the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Team was delighted to welcome Jane Hutt MS and Vice Chair of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Ceri Phillips for a tour of the first Open Call Summer Showcase Exhibition at Barry Hospital.

The exhibition is a varied collection of artwork including paintings, drawings, mixed media and photography, all by local artists, visitors and members of staff.

This vibrant and positive exhibition celebrates the benefits that creative art can bring.  Whether taking the time to view the art on display, or create art and participate in art projects, the physical and mental benefits of being surrounded by art can be enormous.

Jane Hutt MS said: “It was fantastic to see the wide range of art displayed at Barry Hospital by local artists both amateur and professional giving a very therapeutic feel to the Hospital which has been upgraded with many new features to meet the needs patients and staff.”

Vice Chair of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Ceri Phillips said: “The art exhibition at Barry Hospital is a very welcome addition to enhancing the appearance and aesthetics of the walls in the entrance area of the hospital.

“It provides an excellent opportunity for local artists to display their work and serves as a distraction and therapeutic enhancement for patients and their families waiting, perhaps in a state of anxiety and stress, for their appointments and consultations. It represents a small but effective and important contribution to the quality of service offered by the Health Board and Health Charity to its residents.”

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board strongly believes in the ability of the creative arts to improve the everyday lives and wellbeing of their staff, patients and visitors.
