We are delighted to have on display a series of landscape paintings by local contemporary painter, Luke Roberts.
Originally from Anglesey, North Wales, Luke now lives and works in Cardiff, creating a variety of painted works from his Cardiff studio.
Many of Luke’s paintings in this collection are based on the coastline of Anglesey however Luke has also spent time painting in Pembrokeshire, capturing the views in Stackpole.
“My landscape paintings hold a personal response to environment; pushing forward an ever developing understanding of shape, colour and texture, whilst exploring the boundary between the abstract and the figurative. Spontaneous mark making is key to my works, my pieces act as explorations of surface; studying how a single brush stroke produced in the midst of intuitive creative flow can represent an entire landform.
My process is completely organic; everything down to where I place the turpentine and palette impacts the piece. I attempt to think about these details as little as possible before I embark on producing a work, in that way each mark made is completely spontaneous, something which gives my work a visual viscosity and fluidity.”

Mae’n bleser gennym arddangos cyfres o baentiadau o dirweddau gan yr arlunydd modern lleol, Luke Roberts.
Yn wreiddiol o Ynys Môn, Gogledd Cymru, mae Luke bellach yn byw ac yn gweithio yng Nghaerdydd, ac yn creu amrywiaeth o waith paentiedig o’i stiwdio yng Nghaerdydd.
Mae llawer o’r paentiadau yng nghasgliad Luke yn seiliedig ar arfordir Ynys Môn, fodd bynnag mae Luke hefyd wedi treulio amser yn paentio yn Sir Benfro, gan ddarlunio’r golygfeydd yng Nghei Ystangbwll.
“Mae fy mhaentiadau o’r dirwedd yn ymateb personol i’r amgylchedd; yn hybu dealltwriaeth sy’n datblygu’n barhaus o siâp, lliw a gwead, gan archwilio’r ffin rhwng yr haniaethol a’r ffigurol. Mae creu marciau yn ddigymell yn allweddol i’m gwaith, mae fy ngwaith celf yn archwilio arwyneb; sut y gall un cyffyrddiad â brwsh paent yng nghanol llif creadigol greddfol gynrychioli tirffurf cyflawn.
Mae fy mhroses yn gwbl organig; popeth o ran ble dwi’n gosod y tyrpant a ble mae’r palet yn effeithio ar y darn. Dwi’n ceisio meddwl am y manylion hyn cyn lleied â phosibl cyn i fi ddechrau ar gynhyrchu gwaith, yn y modd hwn mae pob marc a wneir yn gwbl ddigymell, rhywbeth sy’n rhoi gludiogrwydd a llyfnder gweledol i’m gwaith.”
