Our new display at the Hearth Gallery is a solo exhibition by local visual artist and photographer Suzie Larke.
The Hearth Gallery, supported by Cardiff & Vale Health Charity are also delighted to be working in partnership with The Mental Health Foundation in Wales as part of their new arts initiative, the Green Ribbon Arts Festival.
As part of the festival, Suzie’s current project ‘Unseen’, commissioned by Unlimited and funded by Arts Council Wales, is a collection of photographs, each one depicting an individual’s personal story and experience with their own mental wellbeing.
Mae Oriel yr Aelwyd, gyda chefnogaeth Elusen Iechyd Caerdydd a’r Fro hefyd yn falch iawn o fod yn gweithio mewn partneriaeth â’r Sefydliad Iechyd Meddwl yng Nghymru fel rhan o’u menter gelfyddydol newydd, Gŵyl Gelfyddydau’r Rhuban Gwyrdd.
Fel rhan o’r ŵyl, mae prosiect presennol Suzie, ‘Anweledig/Unseen’, a gomisiynwyd gan Unlimited ac a ariennir gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, yn gasgliad o ffotograffau, pob un yn darlunio stori bersonol unigolyn a’u profiad gyda’u lles meddyliol eu hun.

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” Ian Maclaren
Part of being human is to struggle. Commonly our struggles with mental wellbeing are not outwardly apparent and can lead to people feeling isolated in their experience. This project aims to help people express their experiences through conceptual photography. It aims to increase awareness and conversation about mental wellbeing, and unite us in the knowledge that everyone goes through – and can overcome – struggle.
Mae cael pethau’n anodd yn rhan o fod yn ddynol. Yn gyffredinol, nid yw ein brwydrau â lles meddyliol yn amlwg yn allanol a gallant arwain at bobl yn teimlo’n ynysig yn eu profiad. Nod y project hwn yw helpu pobl i fynegi eu profiadau drwy ffotograffiaeth gysyniadol. Ei nod yw cynyddu ymwybyddiaeth a sgwrs pobl am les meddyliol, a’n huno gan wybod bod pawb yn ei chael hi’n anodd ac yn gallu goresgyn hynny.
‘Unseen’ is a collaboration with individuals who’ve experienced and overcome a struggle to depict their experience with mental wellbeing through fine art photography. By empowering the subjects and engaging with them as experts in their own experience Unseen seeks to return a sense of control over how they’re seen by others.
Mae ‘Anweledig/Unseen’ yn waith ar y cyd gydag unigolion sydd wedi ei chael hi’n anodd ac wedi goresgyn hynny, ac yn darlunio eu profiad gyda lles meddyliol drwy ffotograffiaeth celfyddyd gain. Drwy rymuso’r unigolion ac ymgysylltu â hwy fel arbenigwyr yn eu profiad eu hunain mae Anweledig/Unseen yn ceisio rhoi ymdeimlad o reolaeth yn ôl iddyn nhw dros y ffordd maen nhw’n cael eu gweld gan eraill.
Suzie uses constructed imagery, digitally stitching photographs together in such a way that they present as a single, untampered image. She creates images that challenge our notion of reality – combining photographs to create images that defy logic.
We are proud to be hosting this exhibition in the Gallery during World Mental Health day on 10th October and it will continue until the 15th of November 2020. View this exhibition in the Virtual Hearth Gallery
Defnyddia Suzie adeiladwaith o ddelweddau, gan bwytho’r ffotograffau at ei gilydd yn ddigidol yn y fath fodd fel eu bod yn ymddangos fel un ddelwedd heb ei chyffwrdd. Mae’n creu delweddau sy’n herio ein syniad o realiti – gan gyfuno ffotograffau i greu delweddau sy’n herio rhesymeg.
Rydym yn falch o fod yn cynnal yr arddangosfa hon yn yr Oriel yn ystod Diwrnod Iechyd Meddwl y Byd ar 10 Hydref a bydd yn parhau tan 15 Tachwedd 2020.

Mae Gŵyl Gelfyddydau’r Rhuban Gwyrdd, sy’n cael ei hariannu gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Sefydliad Baring, yn ddigwyddiad newydd sbon, sy’n cael ei bweru gan y Sefydliad Iechyd Meddwl yng Nghymru, i hyrwyddo sut y gall y celfyddydau atal a lliniaru salwch meddwl, herio canfyddiadau, a gwella rhwydweithio’r artist.

Unseen: a very thought provoking exhibtion – most striking one for me is Missing Something. Have been in twice to see it (while dropping off samples after work). Hope to get to see the exhibition a couple more times before it moves on. Thanks very much for showing it. (I know it makes it more complicated for a virtual exhibition but the captions in the gallery added a lot of meaning to someone who fortunately doesn’t suffer mental turmoil as yet.)
