As part of the Gwanwyn Festival last year, we were delighted to work with filmmaker Jorge Lizalde, and third sector organisation, Solace, at the Highlight Road Community Centre in Barry. The project, Mnemonic 3, created by Jorge Lizalde, enabled us to give carers a voice and an opportunity to express their experiences, thoughts and feelings.

The project took place at the regular weekly meetings organised by Solace, and after an initial Tai Chi session, activities, conversation and refreshments, carers within the group would gently offer their stories and thoughts for filming.

Jorge Lizalde, through his unique working practice, reconstructed their memories through found imagery on the internet, to create a poignant, immersive film presented  with creative writing at the Hearth Gallery, University Hospital Llandough.

An opening screening event was attended by carers and their family members who regularly attend the Solace group together with staff members .

The project was funded by Age Cymru as part of the Gwanwyn Festival, and Cardiff & Vale Health Charity
