Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is calling for artists and makers to submit work specifically for a project on Ward C6 at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).
The ward is dedicated to Services for Older People and we are looking for an artist to work within set parameters to ensure it is effective for the patients on this ward.
We are looking for an artist to paint directly on to a wall in the day room – mural style. The content must work within the healthcare space. It should be uplifting, contributing to a calm and interesting environment, encouraging recovery and hope.
All submissions must meet the criteria below, to be considered. The final decisions will be made by the Project Coordinator, with advice from the panel.
Who can to submit work?
Amateur and professional artists and makers, students, community groups, group work projects, individuals or organisations may donate work from other artists.
Criteria
- Artwork to be uplifting, in content, composition, colour and/or use of materials.
- Sinister imagery should be avoided
- Heavy use of dark colours such as red or black is not appropriate
- Ideally the work will comprise of a lot of detail to stimulate the imagination of patients, potentially a scene with a vintage theme such as a street or park. The idea is to stimulate memories, and discussions among the patients.
Materials and media
Artwork must be original, can be traditional, painted on to a blank wall.
Budget
A restricted budget has been allocated to the project with a maximum spend of £1000.
Timing
The work needs to be commissioned by the end of March 2019 and we are asking for the return of submissions by 20th March if enough work has been submitted before that date we reserve the right to refuse further submissions.
Publicity
Information about the artist will be publicised next to the work. The work will also be featured on this website and our social media channels with the artist’s permission.
