Superheroes

The following poem was written by a patient on the Rookwood Neuro-rehabilitation Ward regarding the excellent care they received from the nursing staff.

Superheroes

Today I’d like to talk
About Superheroes, not the type
You see in magazines,
Or that wear capes.

The type that work in hospitals.
Give up their time, not just
To save people’s lives and nurse
Them back to health.

They also keep patients company
And are a friend to them,
Even just a smile can make
A lonely patient’s day.

I’ve been fortunate enough to
Have the pleasure of having
The company of these superheroes.

They really have changed my life.
I wish I could return the
Good they have kindly gave
To me for four months of my
Short sixteen years of life.
